North Carolina Fine Wines Society - The Judging

Let's get this started!

What was only an idea 15 months ago, is finally coming to light.  Shortly, we'll have eight Advanced Sommeliers coming to Winston-Salem to judge some of the finest wines produced here in North Carolina.  Our Nonprofit was created in February 2016, with two goals in mind.

1. To help promote the quality of Fine Wines in North Carolina.

2. To raise money to create scholarships for North Carolina Students, attending North Carolina schools, pursuing careers in wine related industries of Enology, Viticulture, Agri-tourism and Hospitality.  

We're happy to say that we have a scholarship created and managed by the Winston-Salem Foundation.  This 501(c)(3) Scholarship is being professionally managed by the foundation and is open for applications right now at their One-stop Scholarship Page until April 1, 2017.  The $2,500 dollar scholarship will be announced on June 1st, 2017.  Watch the video here.

Now going back to our first goal, we have over 125 wines that have been entered into the competition, with more coming in each day.  Eight Advanced Sommeliers are participating from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania.  They'll gather to taste these 100% North Carolina grown and vinified wines and select those that will go on to produce the North Carolina Fine Wines Case.

• No matter where you live in the state, there is a Fine Wines producer near you on the map.
• No matter what your taste, there's a local wine for you.

Sommeliers are your friends!  Don't panic when you don't know which wine to choose in a restaurant. Start by telling them your price range and what kind of wines you like.  From Dry to Sweet, and from White to Red.  There are no rules, it's only what you like that matters.  We believe a Sommelier is like a friend who knows both the popular and undiscovered gems in the city.  They're in the know before anyone else because it's their job to know wine.
